"Come what may and love it." This was a sentence repeated often in, and the topic of, the last General Conference address given by Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin. What an amazing man of God he is. I know we are not supposed to have favorite apostles, but if I did, Elder Wirthlin would be one of them. His messages were always so simple and easy to understand. All of his talks that I can remember, just focused on being a good person. I am not a master of the scriptures or deep doctrine. I only know what I believe in my heart and mind and try really hard to live it. Elder Wirthlin never seemed to make anything too complicated. I always felt him speaking directly to my heart. His were always direct, simple messages of hope, of striving to do better, of happiness, and of loving others. In his most recent talk, he spoke about laughing through trials and despair. What a great message for all of us. The message that he delivered previous to this one talked about Christlike service and love for our brothers on this earth. Whenever Elder Wirthlin would speak, I did not have questions about what he said. Everything that came out of his mouth gave a clear, profound message. Every talk that he gave just told me that I needed to work harder to be a good person in one way or another. He truly lived the words "come what may and love it." He will be missed by many, but I am sure as he is reunited with his creator and his sweet wife, he is saying the words, "come what may, I'll love it."Wednesday, December 3, 2008
